Hi, my galaxy 1.9 tdi seems to have had the cover under the engine removed at some point and refitted by a moron (not me) with cable ties ! Can anyone tell me how it's supposed to be fitted, ie what holds it in place ?

Many thanks in advance

6 x M8 or M6 bolts 2 each side (access in wheel arch) and 2 at the back (either side of exhaust), front lip sits over/inside front bumper

I'm sure someone will be along with a TIS drawing shortly.

In which section of TIS we can find out how to open this shield?

double side stick tape? fairy dust? or a few well placed Hilti fixings should do the job nicely ;)

See attached.

Nuts at back (insulators thread into crossmember) are M6, also 4 off M8x25 bolts, 2 each side.

George.

Thanks, but this looks different to mine, it's a '98 model 1.9tdi, there seem to be 4 m8 bolts that go up thought the shield into bodywork, and there is one hole either side in the wheel arch, that i have no idea what they are for ? m8's just slide straight through, plastic clips maybe ?

Yup, wrong diagram!

2 m8 bolts either side, vertically on the lip. And 2 M8 (or maybe M6) nuts at the back You can see the holes in question on this pic

Try this picture for Mk1 -

Splash shield #16 is different depending on engine type, and for the diesels there are 2 designs for before and after May 15th 1999. Lists same hardware for 1995 - 2000 though.

#21 = M6 Fanged Nut

#22 = M8x30 Flanged Bolt

#23 = Insulator Bush

#24 = Expanding Rivet

#25 = Grommet

I suspect that it is #24 and #25 you are referring to. If so, then these are available under part number F1014037 (
